Service Description
Participants will learn the foundation techniques of traditional hand beading. Attendees will gain cultural insight, technical skill and creative confidence as they explore the artistry behind this long-standing craft. What you will learn 1. How to identify and select various types of beads and materials 2. How to properly thread a needle and securely stitch beads for long-lasting designs 3. Multiple beginner-friendly techniques for developing and executing bead patterns. The workshops are conducted in a friendly and welcoming environment. All materials are provided. All levels are welcome. Marwan Pleasant is a fashion designer, artist and Mardi Gras Indian based in New Orleans, Louisiana. Pleasant grew up masking with the Golden Eagles tribe of Uptown, learned the intricate craft of beading from his grandfather Big Chief Monk Boudreaux. His fashion brand, Marlence, merges Black Masking Culture with contemporary design, bringing the tradition to a global audience. Marwan Pleasant has been featured both globally and nationally, from the the Hotel de Ville in Paris, France to the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Presently Pleasant is focused on the construction of his 2027 Mardi Gras suit, teaching in his community and creating unique art for exhibitors and private collections.
